THREE YEAR ELK WAPITI SECTION (Southland Branch NZDFA Cup)
Y4890, 7.58kg, Murray Cook, Ashburton, 4th
Elk-Wapiti bulls are sires that when used over commercial females will really deliver results. Resulting offspring when farmed under good management will usually have gone off the farm within a year and reach target weights that are required for the peak market schedules.
We have been farming Elk Wapiti animals since 1990. Primarily selling bulls by private treaty to date.
Elkarama is located at Dromore, just North of Ashburton. Comprising 50 acres of fully fenced and borderdyke irrigated land, Elkarama carries some 150 Elk Wapiti animals. Given the limit on stock numbers, we follow a ruthless culling regime focused on production and performance. Whilst all our animals have excellent pedigrees, we see this as secondary to their ability to produce - for it is their ability to produce that pays our bills, and will ultimately pay yours.
Whether you are looking to boost early weaner weights, or add genetic merit to lift your velvet herd each animal is selected for its ability to produce - a poor producing animal eats and costs as much as a good producer so make a commitment to invest in your future.
If it doesn't bugle it ain't big enough
I have bought Elk/Wapiti bulls from Murray since 2003 (12 initially, 2 per year since) and have found that they have perforned very well and the results being that the last 3 years I have been able to average 63kgmixed sex carcase weight and they have all been killed by mid October. Even more surprising in the fact that my hinds are not overly large. I have found Murray to be very fair to deal with over the years. Murrays records take a lot of the guess work out of buying GOOD Elk bulls. Just talking to Murray and you tell that he is passionate about ELK.
